CXL - Severe Corneal Haze - 12 Months Later

Postby CrippsCorner » Thu 03 Dec 2015 1:04 pm

Hi guys, just thought I'd give a general update for anyone following my story over the past year... last Saturday marked 12 months exactly since my fateful day.

Today, I'm happy with where I am. I'd say my vision is back to about 75% of what it was pre-CXL. The vision in general, is very good, in that I am actually able to read things without any aid. In fact after several glasses and contacts testing, they really haven't managed to improve it much (it's helped overall with viewing in the dark, but worse overall so have decided to leave it for the time being)

However it is still hazed. It's like looking through steam... but because the other eye is sharper, I usually get through my day okayish. The worst bit (although apparently this can occur even without haze) is my light refraction is far worse and all over the place. It's very frustrating when watching television and driving in the dark is a nightmare. Despite what I said above, I find glasses do provide some help with driving in the dark, even though I still try to avoid it at all costs.

I've got a feeling the refraction will never improve, but am (ever so slightly) hopeful that the haze might continue to clear over the next year or two... unfortunately there's no research out there for this amount of time

Thanks for reading,

Olly

Do you regret it ?

I get by well with lens - not sure whether to take the CXL route

I think I do, yes. However I was driving myself mad thinking about whether to go for it or not... at least this way I've shut my brain up!
