Pharmacist refused to dispense Boston ?

I have had KC for many years and I wear rigid gas permeable lenses

I have just become entitled to free prescriptions and so I asked my GP for a prescription for Boston solutions.
He found them on his computer system and printed me a prescription but the local pharmacy refused to give them to me because Boston lens solutions are blacklisted on their computer

I have been offered prescriptions at the eye hospital in the past (but there was no point in taking them up until now as each bottle in a muiltpack incurs a prescription charge)


Does any one know what is going on and what if anything I can do about it ?

I'm surprised your GP's computer allowed him to write you a prescription as most solutions for contact lenses can't be prescribed by GPs (although they can prescribe saline). Hospitals CAN issue prescriptions for contact lens solutions, though because of all the constraints on budgets, many don't. But do try your eye clinic again.

I don't think there is anything you can do about it accept take up your hospital's offer at your next appointment.

The hospital I attend does offer solutions on prescription.

They can supply one month’s solutions on prescription (many years ago they used to supply three month's) but only at contact lens appointments. Each item has the current prescription charge (currently £8.05) and the prescription is only for the hospital pharmacy. As individual bottles of cleaner and conditioner cost about £7 each and a three month's pack containing both is about £27 a prescription it is only useful if you qualify for free prescriptions or a have a prescription prepayment certificate.

If you qualify for free prescriptions then it's only at appt's you can get a script for them from the hosp pharmacy but that leaves the rest of the year of the year of course. I'm not sure that hosp pharmacies offer solutions for free outside of those appts, maybe only at a reduced rate?? If so, don't know how that would compare with online bulk buying?
It's arbitrary what qualifies because certain physical conditions mean free scripts forever, whereas others do not and it's consistent.
