Contact Lenses for Moderate KC

Postby James_Ldn » Thu 31 Oct 2013 12:26 am

Hello all,

Wonder if anyone can help me?

I've got relatively moderate KC in both eyes and had cross-linking done about a year ago in both.

However, despite my KC being moderate, I'm really struggling to find any lenses that are giving me good clear vision. I've tried a lot now...RGP, smaller sclerals, hybrids, kerasoft, toric, etc. It's never too bad for general vision, but I find it hard to read clearly (so in other words, not getting 20/20 or 20/25 vision).

I know everyone's eyes are different, but it's still frustrating me that no-one can seem to work out why my eyes just aren't 'clicking' with the lenses, yet people who have more extreme KC can get better prescriptions than I can.

Has anyone with moderate KC had this experience? I thought maybe this is still the after-effect of the cross-linking? Or maybe I just need to go back to glasses even though they don't offer the same clarity that lenses can.

Thanks,
James.

Is the problem with near reading vision or do you find it difficult to read signs at a distance too? If it's just near vision, then a simple pair of reading glasses on top of your lenses might help.

Hi Anne,

Yep, I have briefly tried reading glasses and it certainly makes the letters larger and a bit easier to read, but the problem I have is that the letters still aren't clear and crisp, so it kind of feels like I'm constantly reading with double vision.

This leads on to the headaches and wanting to just stop reading to give my brain a rest!
