Cornea transplants in the US - what to expect

Postby Steven Williams » Mon 18 Mar 2013 1:43 pm

This is the best informative source I have discovered in my personal research to date and imo an outstanding website for eye care and self help. If you navigate around It includes everything from nutrition, dry eye etc
An absolute gem of a website.

The waiting period for a donor eye is generally one to two weeks due to a very sophisticated eye bank system in the United States.

you should be able to return to work three to seven days after surgery, depending on your job
:o

The surgery takes one to two hours

well I'm not surprised the waiting period is only a couple of weeks there and I doubt that's purely down to their system of eyebanks, it might also have something to do with what health insurance you have! I doubt anyone on Medicaid gets a graft that quick!!!
Not so sure about returning to work after only 3 days if it's a PK, I know it depends on what you do etc but I rather think that even if you're not doing any lifting or even massively using your eyes at a computer a week to just give your eyes a rest would seem sensible.
I was given 6 weeks and I think this was about right.
