Cataract Update plus Clearkone and Sunglasses musings

Postby Anna Mason » Wed 25 May 2011 4:37 pm

Ok Guys rather than pour the contents of my head into separate posts its all here in one neat package.

Cataract
Following on from the removal of my cataract (LE) I have had my consultant checkup and nothing dodgy has appeared which is pretty good considering I nearly knocked myself unconscious lungeing a horse and had a massive black eye 2 weeks ago. The vision which is blurry is different to immediatly post op. I have the all clear to go full steam ahead with lens fittings so I have a hot date with Oxford Eye Hospital next Tuesday afternon. If there are any problems I will have a follow up op to insert an IOL which may have to be custom made (one measurement suggested -10 as a power). I am posting this info so if anyone else ends up in my particular cul de sac they will know a bit more than I did. I have one in RE but he promised me it will be years before he has to carve that up.

Clearkone
This is very interesting especially if you are me. As a result of my LE op i n April I have had to manage with just my RE and my Clearkone and I have discovered why I keep getting blurry vision. Firstly as suggested I have increased my use of eye-drops and this has made a difference secondly if particularly blurry I remove the lens for half an hour at lunch time clean and reinsert. The major improvement though is that I clean the lens with Eyeeye crystal cleaner every time I soak overnight. I think my tears build up a lot of protein on it. I use a cotton bud to get to the centre rinse well and store in Aosept. I can be more specific if anyone uses these and wants more.

Sunglasses
This is where I qualify for membership of the 'She should have been Blonde' Club. How long have I had KC and its taken me this long to realise 46 bloomin years but to be fair I am going through a unique set of circumstances. I have always worn wraparound sunglasses for hay fever as well as light sensitivity (My dad once told someone you will recognise my daughter she always wears sunglasses). Well I broke my sunglasses on holiday and although I had my spare pairs (yes I take more sunglasses on holiday than shoes :-) ) I treated myself to some in a BOGOF offer in a sports shop they are Polarised lenses and the difference to my vision is incredible. All the horrid glary stuff has mostly gone and I am quite happily driving (I was told I could with RE).

So in summary my vision was blurry in both eyes but as a result of cataract op in LE I have managed to improve my vision in my RE as I have given it my full attention.

Many thanks Anna for all this interesting info. And congrats on getting better RE vision! Now all you need is great LE vision - all the very best for next Tuesday.
Anne
