Pink Trial Lenses

Following my last visit to the hospital last week they let me bring the pink trial lenses that they ordered in while the final ones are manufactured. As I have just started to piggy back one eye. I am not sure if it’s safe to use them for an extended period as I am unsure what they are like for oxygen permeability. I have also noticed that although the mid to long distance is fantastic I struggle to read the emails on my phone and computer monitor. I am wondering if this again is due to the material and the fact that only the centre point is clear the rest pink.

I assume the pink material is a cheaper \easier to machine ?

I have been using my old lenses today. The piggy backed eye does seem to be going blurry a lot but I assume that is because it’s not an ideal fit. I have been using drops and cleaned it a couple of times. Any advice would be appreciated

Dear Grandpa Clanger,
congratulations on getting some pinnk lenses.
Please don't take this the wrong way..... is it possible that, now you're getting some pretty good vision mid-to long distance vision with them, this has just highlighted something...
that if you want both good long distance vision and good close up vision, you'll have to start thihking of reading glasses??
I found that when I got a new contact lens post-graft - distance vision as coming up almost 6.5 for the first time in decades - !! - and my arms were suddenly 6 inches too short to be able to read the labels on the sandwiches in the hospital cafe.
Or maybe you'd be better with them slightly less powered, so the distance is not quite so sharp but the reading easier.
I don't know anything about the pink stuff - they're trying gre cshading for me, but never seen pink ones.

Hi Rosemary

The glasses theory had crossed my mind. As you say maybe they have over corrected.Guess I will have to wait for the final lens to arrive although I may have a play with some of the shelf glasses in Tesco by way of some research . I am in the office tomorrow so i will mix and match old and new to see how I get on. It will be interesting to see if anyone notices i have one blue eye and one brown one .

Well a trip to Tesco proved the theory. +2.5 off the shelf reading glasses at £3 did the trick. I pushed the boat out and got a second pair to use at work. I'll take them with me when I collect the lenses next week to see what they say.
