No i don't get DLA, i was only told last week that i should of been regitered blind before i had my graft Mind you that has put a sring in my step as i have managed to bring up 3 children while blind!!!
i was told that i could still register as partially sighted but i thought that would feel like a step backwards.

I did register blind prior to my first graft, but never claimed DLA. Being regitered brought all sorts of advantages.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease, a type of self-allergy whereby the persons immune system creates antibodies which instead of protecting the body from bacteria and viruses attack the persons own body tissue and vital organs.

I am at present being test for this due to other health problems and if it is lupus it could be that thats causing extra problems with my KC.

Andrew what sort of advantages did you get from being regitered blind? go on tell me what i missed out on
What are the advantages or being regitered partialy sighted?

The first big thing was that I attracted all sorts of toys that enabled me to continue to work: a shiny new Apple Mac was provided by my employer in co-operation with the Access to Work Team at Jobcentre plus.

I also got some really clever software, and a Video Magnifier that sits next to my computer and allows me to magnify the text of books and doccuments ON MY COMPUTER SCREEN!

In addition to this I was eligible for a Scotland Wide travel pass that enabled me to take any train, bus or ferry in Scotland.

I also got some stuff from RNIB, including a talking book machine and CDs to play in it, a talking watch, white cane etc.

I know that different jurisdictions work on slightly different bases, but I think it may be the case in all areas that you are entitled to free travel on public transport if you are not able to see well enough to drive.

Hi Anne

I get talking books and our local newspaper on a weekly cd the RNIB came and put what i call blobs around my house (on the cooker.washing machine,microwave etc)
they gave me a large numbered phone and lots other extras.
The RNIB and social services are a great help to me.

No need to apologize. This is an open forum. When we have something to say, the idea is that we pitch right in!

(By the way, a pal of mine in Scotland has Lupus, occasioned by some pretty potent medicines she was given to combat something entirely different. She is able to function, but when the Lupus is at its worst she really is quite disabled by it. I hope that your condition will respond to treatment, and that it does not exacerbate your KC)
