I went to the lens clinic yesterday and got a new pair of contacts. Consultant has gone back to soft perm as they were originally the most comfortable.
when he put them in they were comfy i did not know they were there. And i could read a couple of rows lower then i ever have. even though it still seemed really small and distant i made it.
When i went to put them in this morning though, my eyes went all blood shot and started to stream. Could this be because i have come sensitive to the solution they are in so need saline to rinse or because my eyes were dry??

Awww and everything sounded so good then as well!! I was thinking wow this sounds good for you for a change!
It could be something to do with the solution so trying rinsing them with saline could help. It could also be because your eyes were being poked in the hospital!! Hehe they don't really like that much and might just need to settle down!!

Well i went in to town to the optom and brought some saline and aquify eye drops. I put a drop in each eye and rinsed the lenses in the saline. Right eye was perfect ! left eye still irritated watered and went blood shot so i took them out again.
I do not get it when i had soft perm before i never had a problem comfort wise and when he put them in yesterday they were fine. I am guessing it was just lack of luck and got a bit of dirt in there or something.
try again in the morn, got a driving lesson too hoping i can read a no plate and book my test ! unless it will take time for my eyes to adjust.

I tried again this morning.
I put the drops in and rinsed lenses in saline.
I put them in intially there was no discomfort soreness etc. My eyes just felt a bit sensitive.
But then the tears came and they were flowing well again my eyes went blood shot. And i could not even open my eyes i persevered for half an hour and then had to take them out. that was a struggle as my eyes were so wet !! still were not sore but sensitive, I do not understand it when i had these last year there were no probs when he put them in at the hospital on wednesday i had no problems and wore them for two/three hours, so why have they played up these last couple of days.

Kerrie, very sorry to hear its a struggle. I know even from this study (below) that you are not alone, even those who wear contacts in general find the whole thing not their cup of tea, to say the least!!
I would say it will take a few visits to a specialist when the condition is not very common. On the same token a second opinion in a rare eye condition is a good idea as well. It could even be something simple which can be fixed, so you need to let them know as soon as.

A survey of 453 contact lens users found that more than half of respondents were dissatisfied with their lenses or had already stopped wearing them. Dryness and discomfort were the most common self-reported reasons for lens dissatisfaction and discontinuation, followed by preference for another corrective method, according to the study.
Kathryn Richdale, OD, MS, and colleagues at Ohio State University College of Optometry polled subjects on their lens-wearing habits, lens-related problems and overall satisfaction. They published their findings in the February issue of Cornea.
The researchers found that 119 subjects (26.3%) felt that contact lenses "were not the ideal form of visual correction," and another 109 subjects (24.1%) had permanently stopped wearing such lenses.
Subjects who ceased lens use were more likely to be men averaging 9.5 years older than those currently using contact lenses. Subjects who discontinued lens use were also more likely to have started wearing lenses an average of 4 to 5 years later in life and to have tried either rigid or both soft and rigid lenses, according to the study.

possible success
Hi Kerrie - sorry to hear that you're having so many problems when things looked so good initially. Could you not ring the clinic which fitted the lenses for you and tell them what's going on? Or even go in to have things checked out? It's possible you've got an abrasion if you did get a bit of dust behind the lens and that's why your eyes are protesting so much. But someone would really need to have a look at your eyes to be able to tell what's going on. Good luck and I hope things improve soon!

The thing with my lens specialist is that some days he is at the hospital, in yarmouth some in nowrich and some in lowestoft.
He is always so busy.
I know i keep saying it but the soft perm were fine last year and perfectly ok wedsnesday, i wore them for the 2/3 hours.
Something strange has happened between taking them out weds and putting them in thurs.
He is aware i went and got the saline and drops on thurs. He felt that maybe they were not rinsed enough to.
I have done the whole rinsing and drop thing but it has not stopped the tears.
Could it be having a cold/being run down, the contraceptive pill or the fact i had an Hep b vac on monday??

I am thinking the cold thing must be it gareth.
Lynn told me to soak them in saline over night instead of disinfecting solution, this made partially a difference. instead of problems straight away, i have worn them now for about an hour, now my nose is sniffling and eyes watering.
I am aslo finding bright light ie computer hurts and causes watering.
