quick question: Eye Shield

Hi,

I received a new eye shield today to wear at night.

The one I wore from my operation had a dressing inside.

My question is, in wearing the eye shield do I still need to place a dressing inside.or if not at least cover up the holes in the shield to stop dust getting inside?

Many thanks, with testing out my eye this morning I completely forgot to ask about the holes in the shield.

I never put anything in my eye shield, and i never had one with a dressing in it,
I guess they would of told me if i needed to put a dressing in it.
So i guess you will be fine with the shield as it is.

How did your eye test go?

Shield is now mor to stop you rubbing your eye into the sheets and so on.

I think same as Anne; you would have been told to put dressing in if you had too.

That's good to know, what about the 9 holes in the shield though? Do I need to cover them up with the tape or leave them for air flow?

I would leave them open and allow the eye to breathe.

Id leave the holes open, and just get that breathable medical tape from Boots etc...and replace it every other day so it holds...unless youve got one of these new shields with band etc?

Like Gareth, I've always assumed the holes in the shield are to allow the air to circulate round the eye so never covered them up when I wore one. And as you're wearing it at night when you're asleep, how is the dust going to get into your eyes? Good to hear you sounding so cheerful after yesterday! Keep healing.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll keep them open, my concern had come because the nurse mentioned that when we sleep we don't fully close our eyes, hence dust particles entering. I was also a bit confused as my post op patch had the holes covered with the bandage that was inside.

But thanks for clearing that up. I can sleep easily tonight.

Like the others, I didn't use a dressing with the eye shield. Actually I now have quite a collection of them.

In my many visits to ophthalmological operating rooms I have had several of these eye shields taped over my eye. The funny thing is that they have not been positioned the same way twice! I think that my ophthalmologist must try hard to find new ways of aligning the shield over the eyes of his patients.

My attempt to tape it up last night did result in tape stretched unevenly across the face. In fact I was so determined to make sure it was fastened properly as to not fall off that I was in fear of mummifying myself.

I look forward to improving on my taping performance tonight.
