Yeah, I did order a spare, which means I will have a spare left and right at the end of this. Got to pay for all the new lenses though. I thought if you lost/broke one in the first 12 months it would be replaced free of charge? Apparently not but I did get a free one when my prescription changed so musn't grumble (even though I clearly am!).

I was hoping the Kerasoft would act as a spare, but come 1st March we will see what high refractive lenses do for my vision!

Strangely enough I seem to have gotten on fine by using a disposable soft lens (I still have a few boxes from pre-KC diagnosis). Its not as good as the rgp but its better than nothing. Soft lens in the left eye makes absolutley no difference at all but this is the most affected eye. With no lenes its extra images all over the place and 2 rgps is very little doubling. But using a soft lens seems to just give one faint double image using the right eye. I can filter this out OK and its a lot better than using my only spare rgp which is for the left eye and therefore fits very poorly. It makes me wonder whether there is scope for a Kerasoft for the right eye, when I go back to the Optom. What is the score with Kerasoft lenses? Are they permanent or disposable? I gather they are more rigid than daily disposable types. I am not sure O2 transfer is such a problem since my eyes are nice and white after a whole day with a soft lens, wheras they are pretty pink pretty quickly with an rgp.
At the moment I am not wearing anything in the right at all. My lower eye-lid is very sore. I have noticed a little blister / ulcer type thing on the inside. I think I will leave it alone for a bit.

Matthew

The Kerasoft are thicker than normal soft lenses, different material to daily/monthly disposablen types. You keep them as long as you can.

Thanks for that. I think I will ask about them next time I am in.
In the meanwhile, the contact lens clinic has suggested I go to the eye casualty to have them look at this blistery thing inside my eye-lid. I think I will take a book! :?

Matthew,

My upper eye lid developed lots of little white blister type dots. This was when there was a high pollen count in 2005 and I was told it weas pollen on the lens I was reacting too. Later I was told I was allergic to my lenses, but I thought it odd to be in one ey only which is when I trialed different eye drops.

I have found that not using protein remover on a weekly basis or rinsing lens cleaner off with saline produces the same effect.

It is annoying when such things happen, especially when you have been so careful building the wear time and wearing lenses responsibly.

Hope you resolve the problem quickly.

3 hours at casualty probably wasn't as quickly as I would have liked but it was definitely the right thing to do. I have an infection in that eye, probably caused by trying an ill-fitting lens which must have scratched the eye-lid. Glad I went. Now its anti-biotics for 5 days and then back to normal lens use. Assuming I get my new lens by then. Its a steep learning curve but I am learning...

3 hours for eye casualty in most parts of the UK is quick service.

You had already tried the other lens, but but anyone new to the forum, if you are in the same position, trying a lens not meant for that eye, be it old or originally for the other, chances are it will do absolutly nothing for you.

Matthew; at least you are getting treatment, do not rush back to the lens wear and remember to build the lens wear again.

Pat,
Yeah, its sometimes like that isn't it. But still no harm done in the long run.

Gareth,
Wise words as ever. I made the mistake of trying an unsuitable lens. As soon as I broke the original right lens, I should have sat tight with the one good fitting lens that I had and waited for a new one to arrive. By pushing too quickly for perfect vision I have ultimately slowed myself down, not to mention the damage I could have done if I had not got the infection sorted out. I hope other lens users who have yet to build up experience will read this and learn from my mistakes. 3 hours in casualty wasn't too bad, I have a RISK game on my PDA which quickly burned up the time!
