Hello Peeps,

Happy New Year! I haven't posted in a while and it's good to be back in the fold again.

I have my 3 month contact lens check on Tuesday. I have a PMMA hard lens (as it's the only type I can tolerate) and it has been tolerated, albeit a little misty for a year.
However, I'm having increasing problems either getting it to settle or keeping it in.
I wonder whether my eyes have finally rejected it as they did with the other lenses (I have allergic tendencies with chronic atopic eczema and acne which is now worsening due to progestogen -I think-which I have to take for something else. When my skin is worse my eyes are worse).

When I have to remove the lens because of discomfort, I find little dots on it.
What do I now ask my optometrist? Are there specific types of lens I can request to try?

I would appreciate any advice on this.

I'd make my way back to the optometrist. contact lenses ar no fun at all when they become sore to wear.

I think you need to post what you have put here. If you are getting white dots, he might be able to look at them under a microscope after first seeing where they are on the lens when it is in your eye. It could just be proteuin deposits requiring the use of protein remover tablets a bit more frquently. This can cause irritation, I know it does with me.

You need to mention the misting.

I've been getting that with the Kerasoft I have been trying. This is not the lens but my cornea becoming waterlogged due to the lack of oxygen getting to it. In my case because I have had to experiment with them after wearing my normal lenses and not being able to give my eyes their normal rest.

You need to to mention everything good and bad a bout the lenses and other factors you feel might have an affect. This way the optom has a full picture and hopefully can make a recomendation that best suits you and your eyes.

Thank you for your advice.
The point Gareth makes about the cornea being deprived of oxygen is interesting and very relevant, in the case of my own PMMA lens. I have noticed that liquid tends to pool, and at times this is what I attribute to mistiness, although at other times it's just plain cloudy from condensation.
I already use protein remover tablets once a week.

Whether I actually manage to make it to the appointment at the RAH in Paisley tomorrow will depend on divine intervention in the storm weather we're having. There has been quite a bit of disruption to public transport...

Hello Peeps,

Just to let you know that I did make it to the RAH (before our heavy snowfall-good timing!).

It has been decided that I've become allergic to the lens, as the inside of my upper eyelid has inflamed patches all over it, from rubbing against the lens itself.

I've been given sodium cromoglycate drops to use for 4 weeks and have been stopped from wearing the lens for 2 weeks. Back to Liquifilm drops with the lens, too because my eye is too dry.

Here's hoping the rest from the contact lens will help...otherwise I might be hearing talk of a graft. Already I've been told because of my allergies that I most likely would reject a donor cornea.

I'll be a good girl and do as I'm told...

I had the same thing in the middle of 2005 and had the same treatment.

After experimenting with eye drops I use Systane and so far touch wood have not had another reaction to my lenses now over 2 years old.

Here's hoping you get the same positive result to the treatment as me.

Oh and I had to build up the lens wear from scratch again
