Ok, Im new around here so forgive me for my newbeness. I have been struggleing with KC for over a year. As of late, It has been getting worse. I have been to several eye docs and the newest one is trying to fit me with a "hard" contact lens. I am on my 6th lens and nothing is working....in fact i feel my eye (its only the left) is getting worse. I have been told its not a bad case of KC, however I am constantly straining. Half the time my eyebrows are 2 inches above my forehead and my face is doing some contorting thing, which causes my the back of my neck to tense up. Yes Im starting to feel like a freak !!!! SO HERE"S MY QUESTION. I want to get Intacs, but not many people talk about them here. I have found a doc in LA (CA) (some say he is the best in the states) who does Intacs and the C3R. What are the advantages and disavantages of the two? Any feed back back I would appreciate, I'm getting desperate.

The reason intacts are not talked about much here is because this is a UK site and in the UK intacts is not a common a thing so few have undergone the procedure.
As to advantages/disadvantages, I am not the best to comment, just thought an explanation was in order as to why there is little here on intacts.
I do know what you mean about contorting your face, I did when I initially got contacts. To overcome this I had to make a real effort to relax while the lenses were in and the result was the lens wear and comfort was much improved.
After all is is far from normal to shove plastic in your eye. Lens fitting too is much an art as it is a science, so what may be considerd mild KC might be problematic to fit. An alternative to a corneal lens might be a scleral lens.

Thanks for the reply. To answer your question about my face doing funny contorting faces and to clear some things up. I dont even have a contact yet. I'm in the process with getting fitted with a RGP lens. The last one I got was the worst one yet. Im not wearing a contact as of yet. However my left eye is driving me nuts. I am always straining now which I feel in the back of my neck and jaw. And even at some points I have to make these funny faces (contorting) to (what i think)brings things into focus. I think because my eye is "not that bad" could be right but my depth perception is screwed up just enough to throw everything off. I have done alot of research this past weekend and I have lots of question for my eye doc tomorrow (tues.)

The other one you get is people sat with a finger in their eye to change the eyeball shape as that sometimes improves vision. For me it is my right eye, look to the right, sqeeze the left hand side of the eyeball with little finger and hey presto my central vision aint too bad!
Not to be recomended as I am sure it is not good for us, but many have been there and done that!

I discovered I could see really well by doing what gareth was saying about 6 months ago. I´m pretty sure it´s not good for you so I don´t do it anymore. It´s weird....
