Hard lenses without silicone?

I am struggling to wear lenses with Silicone...does anyone know where I can source hard lenses without Silicion (as I'm allergic to it)...basically I need a good old pair of hard lenses without any fancy materials.....yours hopefully

Thanks for that...I wish my specialist COULD find a supplier..but he appears to be struggling......I think he's not convinced that I have an allergy to Silicone..and keeps getting lenses made with "just a little bit" in them...in the meantime my eyes are becoming sore and like 2 pots of glue...happy days....!!!!!!

Don't have asthama...(sorry..spelling awful)...but I think that I am allergic to silicone. A set of gas perms were made for me and (as I recall) the silicone was drying out on my..which meant that everytime I blinked...I was rubbing the inside of my eyelid raw...I coped to about 48 hours and my then specialist put it down to being allegic to silicone...prior to then I had just had plain old hard perpex lenses..with holes drilled in them to let some air into my eye...as soon as any other materials have been tried..I have struggled..the last pair going really greasy in under 3 minutes....my specialist is now stating that he doesn't think he is able to correct my vision with contacts? (but my old ones work?....) I'm confused..and getting frustrated..he has been trying to source a replacement pair since Feb 05?..I'd be grateful for any help.....

Only reason I asked was that all asthema inhalers need a small amount of silicone to lubricate the valve. Combine that with the rich blood supply in the lungs you would know if you were allergic or not.

Something elese to try might be a lubricating eye drop like Systane that would put a coating on the corne and eye lid. For me this is to trap moisture in the cornea and stops it drying out. Perhaps it will help with a barrier between the cornea and eye lid to make the presence of silicone in a lens less of a problem.

The affect take time to effectivel build up a barrier of sorts to prevent the eye drying out.

And you can wear PMMA ones but not RGP sclerals?

I presume you got the old ones OK, but these don't fit so well now and you need new ones? - and the labs (?) that made the old ones don't make PMMA lenses any more?

And your fiter is in Dorset, right?

I suspect this may be a problem with labs - very little demand for pmma lenses now so they are giving up doing them.....
