I'm curious, since most of us seem to be regular computer users, how many hours a day do we use them.
I know, it used to be a question, how much time do we spend online, but these days I think it has changed with broadband and live internet on 24/7, once that computer is switched on, the internet is ready.

For me I think its about 10hrs per day, I've a range of things that I do, and during the week, it can be like I live in front of it - only at the weekends do I make the effort to slacken off ... wow that sounds terrible, 'the effort to leave my PC' ... but it is true, I do so much that involves or revolves around computers that sometimes it is difficult to not be sitting in front of one, due to work, graphics rendering, writing or watching a movie ... hmm never been much of a gamer, lol never seem to find the time...

Recently my computer time is up closer to 10, sometimes 12 which is why I have the eye drying problem.

Timer set on the pc to ensure I take at least 5 minutes away from it every 30 miutes just to keep the tear production going.

That way the drop useage is less frequent.

I'm an amateur

I am at my computer for less than half the time you men are working at yours. But when I am in my study it is always on even if I'm not at it and it makes a little noise when I get eMail.

I usually try to deal with eMails as theya rrive, and teh break from reading books or documents is good for my eyes.

Oh I do the same, I've one machine installed with Rainlender, nice interface and the alerts are highly customizable, also very skinnable can match most themes ... I had considered recording my own voice for the alerts ... but then that might have freaked me out let alone anyone else over hearing what would amount to me talking to myself.

Oh by the way, my new v/a software arrived, today so I might be spending more time than I imagined tweaking things so I can finally array render over my network ... go me go!

erm ... video-audio software. I got slightly carried away in my excitement and almost reverted back to net-speaky.

The software itself is super duper handy - a little expensive but I found a place selling it much cheaper than Sony were advertising it as, so I was pleased by that. It's called Sony Vegas 6a, it's not the best but many of it's features that I need and use, Vegas has them on a better workflow. It's biggest drawback is it can be a real dog with resources on average spec PCs but the best feature so far over the rest is that I can hook it into my other PCs and borrow the processors so to speak (array rendering) to master video-audio hopefully, at least 4x times faster than what I have been managing.

Hmmm I feel myself ready to start getting uber technical, so basically, it's just video processing software that I got carried away with

I found ADOBE Premier realy good on my Sony laptop for editing digital video.

Now I use Nero, not as good, but it cam free with the new laptop and if I need extra power, it goes via the desktop pc.

When I get the £700 for the latest Adobe Premier stuff, will go back over to that.

Knight - you will probably want to upgrade your Vegas 6.0a to 6.0c - the "c" version gives support for Dolby audio. It's a free upgrade.

I'm using it for the conference DVD!

That was the last price I was quoted, since found a place loads cheaper!

Sometime to get the things you want you need to pay top dollar

I sell much of the stuff I do and my customers can be quite fussy.

Currently trying to buy the copyright to some 30 year old stuf I know there is a demand for, but the owners of the material are only interested in the sub 5 year products.
