Firstly Hi.

I am a male, 38 years old, had KC since about the age of 23. Many years ago I tried hard lenses but didn't stick with them. I have coped, albeit difficult at times with glasses. I got the point where my KC could not be ignored.

I had the eye scans etc and was told that cross linking wouldn't be needed but hard lenses would give me nigh on 20/202 vision. I went for my first lens fitting and they arrive this Thursday.

My KC I was told has stabilized. Which made me happy. I have it in both eyes with the right being the worst.

I just want to air some thoughts and questions I am having.

Will I have to go back for loads of fittings? This worries me as I live not to close to the hospital and have little holiday left this year to take.

Will they be really uncomfortable?

Will my vision improve a lot?

Are they easy to lose.

How much should I expect to pay for cleaning fluid a month?

Are they easy to take in and out.

Sorry for the questions but I hope some of you can give me some advice.

Hopefully the optometrist will go through all these points with you when you collect your lenses. Though I don't suppose they'll be able to gaze into a crystal ball any more than we can!
Contact lenses should certainly make a big difference to your vision. You'll need to get used to them - optoms generally recommend building up the wear time gradually over a couple of weeks, starting with an hour on the first day and increasing by an hour a day. With luck, the fit and the prescription will be right first time and you won't need to go back for loads of refits. But don't be afraid to say if they don't seem to be right after a couple of weeks. KC eyes aren't easy to fit, so sometimes they will need 'tweaking' to get the best vision and comfort.

I use Asda's RGP cleaning solution costs about £4.80 a bottle been using it for about 4 years now with no problems also once a month soak lenses in a protein remover. I have been wearing lenses for over 30 odd years. Hope this helps.

I went to collect the lenses and have first fitting. The lenses improved my vision but one needs adjusting as it's too close to eye. Just waiting for next appointment . The good news is the ophthalmologist says that my vision has improved much more and will even more with some other minor adjustments she made. Will update after next appointment.
