KC and Pain

Postby Binita » Thu 08 Nov 2012 9:05 am

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with KC when I was 13 and I'm now 28. I live in South Africa and the doctors have said that I need a corneal graft for my left eye and have also suggested cross linking my good eye which I'm hoping to get done this month. I'm currently on a waiting list to get a donor. Recently I have been getting a dull aching pain in my left eye. Is this normal for KC patients?

Binita

Welcome to the forum, and every good wish with your transplant and with Crosslinking.

YOu ask whether pain is normal for people with keratoconus and the answer, I am afraid, is a little complex. I did, and do, suffer pain in my eyes, but i have always thought that this was associated with contact lens wear rather than directly due to keratoconus. In your place, I think I'd ask to see my ophthalmologist, tell him or her what you are experiencing and whether there is anything that can be done.

Let us know how you get on.

Andrew

Thanks Andrew.

I am going to see my opthalmologist next week before I have my eye crosslinked so I will find out more. I also keep getting viral conjunctivitis in my left eye. I don't wear contact lenses. I tried wearing hard contact lenses for a few months a while back but the hurt and made my eyes dry out within 5 minutes. Its nice to be able to chat to people suffering with the same condition as there is not much support for KC patients in South Africa.
