Hi all...

I have not written for a while been busy boy at uni, but have been reading occasionally and wanted to call on peoples experience.

I have been wearing lenses and glasses on and off now since end of 2010, towards oct 2011 i was told to concentrate on lenses as glasses was no longer a suitable option and have been using lenses regularly since. I am now having to piggyback my lenses, the problem i have with them is although my vision is better.. what vision i have in them seems to be kinda watery? my eye's aren't streaming etc its almost like its between lenses and i get odd reflections etc, added pressure is i am due for an eyetest with DVLA to find out if I can get back on the road, not been driving for 12 month + I feel confident in my eyesight to drive but am struggling as my vision can be perfect one sec and distorted the next? Wondering if it is the way I am using the lenses, solutions? the way im putting them in? or are my eyes just knackered!!!

Hi Chris,

The problem is, everyone's contact lens issues are completely individual. No-one can give you tailor made advice without seeing you as a patient.

Having said that - I perfectly understand your vision issues - in fact, I have been fighting for over 2 years to try and get the concept of "variable vision" accepted by the Govnt as a genuine issue shared by not only keratoconics but people suffering from other eye related conditions.

Therefore, your problems are a mix of individual contact lens issues and general ones related to keratoconus and the way it is perceived by the NHS and social services.

If you want to properly sort this, you have to devote energy to it. This means talking to your practitioner about your vision issues as only he/she can write reports to DLA. It is only such reports that count with the NHS and Govnt agencies.

If you explain your vision issues properly to your practitioner, then he may well be able to sort it. You may assume he understands what you see, but this is not necessarily so. KC is so individual, that no-one can generalise about quality of vision. So much so, that what you see may not relate to what anyone else on this forum sees.

Therefore, your new best buddy is your practitioner - talk to him/her and get them onside.

Hi Chris,

My lens fitter is trying me with piggy back fitting too. The problem I have is variable ghosting and slight bluriness with blink. I still prefer my Kerasoft atm.

I'm back on Thursday for a fit check. So I have to have the piggy back in all Thursday morning.

Good luck and keep at it, that's all we can do to see again.
