SWOLLEN EYES

Hi Everyone

Just trying to pick your brains.

I have had KC for about 28 years and worn rgp lenses for about 25 years. I went to the optometrist at the hospital on friday who said the fit of them was ok at the moment and my eyes looked ok and she didnt want to see me again for 6 months.

However 6 days before i went to the hospital (last weekend) I woke up with very swollen eyes - my actual eye didnt appear to be involved (no redness or irritation) just the area around my eye - especially the corner where my tear ducts are - I went to the chemist who said it looked like an allergic reaction and gave me some antihistamines. I had not eaten anything different or changed my make up, washing routine etc so i really could not understand what had caused it. After about 2 - 3 days my eyes returned to normal and I just put it down as a one off thing and therefore never thought to mention it at my optometrist appointment.

Then yesterday the exact same thing has happened - not as severe as last time but in the corners of my eyes it is swollen and therefore making my eyes look a different shape, there is no redness and no pain at all just looks like there is fluid around my eye, although i must admit one of my eyes does feel dry. I do have blepharitis which i have had for years and i use hot compresses and my eyes every night and use rapitil eye drops every day.

Just wondered if any of you could throw any light on what it could be.

That sounds dreadful. I'd go along to the ophthalmology clinic while my eyes were swollen so that they can see what's going on. I'd avoid putting in my lenses while the symptoms persist.

thank you for your reply.

Ive been to the doctors today and have been told that I have a tear duct blockage - probably related to my blepharitis - been advised to carry on with my hot compresses and now start to massage the top of my nose where to tear ducts are.

What next eh - oh well there's much worst things in life.

I use an eyebag. A couple of seconds in the microwave to get all the little linseeds oozing good vapour and then five minutes with the bag draped across my closed eyes to get the juices flowing.
