NICE and BUPA

Postby itansey » Mon 31 Jan 2011 8:20 pm

Hi,

Can someone please clarify if NICE are recommending the CXL procedure as i'm trying to get BUPA to cover the cost. BUPA says that because its not recommended by NICE they won't pay, is this true. If its not recommended, how long till NICE do recommend it as i dont want to pay of £2k this year and then its recommended next year.

Thanks,

Ian

I had the same issue so my BUPA consultant referred me to the CXL specialist at the NHS hospital - despite the fact that the CXL specialist is actually also a consultant in the same BUPA hospital. :?:

I had to wait for an appointment at the NHS hospital but I did eventually get one after about 3 months. (ironically by that time the cornea had got too thin and I am now not suitable for CXL :x ). But I was told that paying privately for it was not an option as it was not approved.

thanks for the reply. Do you or anyone else have a list of NHS specialist/doctors who can carry out this procedure in the London area. I'm living in richmond.

Regards,

Ian
