UK Keratoconus Self-Help and Support Association

Hello everyone...I am new here. I have ben living with KC for the past 20 yrs. I currently use nothing to help with my KC as have found lenses etc to be unbearable. I have seen various consultants over the years in the US and the UK, but never realy been convinced on which treatment to pursue. I am thinking of having another Consultation - if only to check whetehr my KC is stable of progressing. I live in London and have heard of Dr Sheraz Daya and Dr Julian Stevens. Anyone recomend any of these ..or someone else. Thanks

I'm not sure whether you're talking about a private consultation or getting a hospital referral through the NHS. There are a number of very good corneal specialists at Moorfields Eye Hospital and the contact lens department there has a range of options to offer. If it's a while since you've tried lenses, there are now lots of different types (corneal rgps, special soft lenses for KC, piggy backing, hybrid lenses and scleral and semi scleral lenses) so there should be something which you could get on with. There are also good corneal specialists at St Thomas's. Mr Sheraz Daya gave a talk at our 2007 conference, and John Dart from Moorfields talked at our 2005 conference. If you want to know if your KC has progressed or not, I'd have thought it'd be be better to see someone you've seen before as they may have topography or keratometry measurements and their clinical notes for comparison. It'd be difficult for someone who hasnt seen you before to answer that specific question! Assuming you were late teens/early twenties when you were diagnosed I am guessing you might be early 40s now (I know, shouldnt ask a lady's age!) and hence your condition would most probably have stabilised.
