From another site. Out of the 10 done 6 got better vision, 2 the same and 2 worse. Don't bin your RGP's just yet
"The implanted corneas were not completely smooth and so the hard contacts forced the corneas to conform to an even surface, improving the ability to focus.
The irregularity was likely the result of the sutures used to hold the implant in place during healing, the researchers wrote. In future trials, they plan to use suture-free methods and a stronger implant."

From my understanding these are some of the same issues that human cornea transplants reciepents face. However if it is successful to develop a synthentic cornea then that may increase the availability of grafts for those that need it, especially as the cornea is one of the body parts that people dont agree to donate for their own personal reasons.
Obviously this trial/study is still very early stages but it will be interesting to follow developments.

Regarding the biosynthetic corneal grafts , lets hope when its rolled out across the world when its classed as a success ,lets hope its available on the nhs and not through private healthcare . Nobody wanted or caused their keratoconus its not a self inflicted disease .
