Hi

I am 20 months post graft with my final stitches out last week. I was wondering what causes the ghosting that i can see?

I always thought that when i had the transplant, my ghosting would go away, however it is there still and the latest ghosting pattern has seemed to have been in the orientation of the stitches i had removed (x6)
The best vision i have experienced since i was 17 has been just after the transplant with all 16 stitches in every time stitches come out it has been getting worse .

Looking at my latest Orbscan (attached), i can see that the stitches had pulled the back surface of my cornea into a kind of 6 sided shape in the same orientation as the ghosting. This worries me slightly as the ghosting is still there and if it is the back surface of the cornea that is causing this, can anything be done to reduce it? I am guessing that laser surgery can only be used to correct the outside?

Any info on this would be appreciated as i am feeling particularly "was it worth it?" at the moment. I Hate Ghosting!!!

I had the same experience as you with the graft in my second eye - the vision was very much better before the stitches came out. But I get very good vision with contact lenses (and even glasses). Unfortunately, even a graft doesn't produce a perfectly smooth cornea. When I saw a topography of my post graft eyes, the red bits were at the edges where the graft joined my own cornea. Pre graft, they would have been more central. But my corrected vision is miles better than it was pre grafts and I do hope yours will be too.
