Confused

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice or if they have experienced a similar situation.

Eight years ago whilst livining in France I got a severe eye infection. The ophthalmologist told me that I might have keratoconus. I went to see a specialist who mapped my eyes and said I didn't. I got glasses but they did not help my vision so I never wore them.

Over the last few months my vision has gotten a lot worse. I suffer badly with allergies and hayfever and it seems as if I am constantly rubbing my eyes. Friends and family comment on the fact that I squint all the time. I went for an eye test yesterday and the optician said she thought I had keratoconus. Went to a ophthalmologist today who said I might have a mild case and is prescribing soft contact lenses. She took about ten minutes to look at my eyes and said i didn't need to see a specialists.

I'm worried that this keeps cropping up and I reallly don't know what to do. I want to be more proactive this time.

Would be very grateful for any advice anyone could offer

Regards

Dee

Hi Dee and welcome to the forum
I'm a bit confused because you say you went to see an ophthalmologist who said you didn't need to see a specialist. But an ophthalmologist IS a specialist. So was it a High St optician you went to see? If you're concerned and/or find the soft lenses don't help, you could ask your GP to refer you to a hospital eye clinic (preferably one in a big city where they see lots of people with keratoconus and other corneal problems). Not everything that produces KC like symptoms is KC but only an expert examining your eyes can be sure what's going on.
All the best
