Confused NHS funding

Hello, I have just come accross this site and hope you can help me. I was told I had KT in my right eye approx 3/4 years ago folllowing a refferal to the hospital Optomitist, following a normal eye test at spec savers. It is controlled by wearing contacts 24/7.
The man I saw at the Hospital then treated me under the NHS in his own practice. He gave me eye tests and lenses every few months. I went to see him yesterday and he said its no longer available for free on the NHS due to cut backs, and I now have to pay £30.00 a month. Has anyone else heard this?
I can't seem to google anything on it and I am trying to establis hif its becasue he longer does NHS or its accross the country. Its really worrying me as I will struggle to suddenly find the extra £30.00 a month. I am not classed as 'low income' but its still a weeks shopping for me, so need to be sure.
Also my employer only gives me vouchers for specsavers, who aren't the best to eye test me with the condition.
If anyone knows whats happening or has any links, would be much appreciated.
I don't understand if i have this considtion why they are suddenly no longer helping on the NHS. What happens if I have to go back to glasses and it gets worse?
I am really worried att he moment. Thank you.
Cathy
