Pins & needles in arm

Morning,

Currently waiting on Moorfields to book me in for a proud nebula removal in June on my left eye to help lens tolerance (they are taking their time, i have to call each week to make sure it's going through!)

In the meantime i mostly just wear my right lens(RGP piggyback)

Not that comfortable tbh, and on bad days i get a pins and needles sensation starting round cheekbone area that i also feel in my forearm and hand.

Talked to my contact lens fitter on Tuesday, he was pretty useless at offering any advice, i mentioned sclerals etc or lenses that may vault over what i'm guessing is scarring or a dry patch causing the weird pins and needles but apparently they don't offer them.

Thought i'd see if the vast knowledge of the forum had any experience of pins and needles from contact lens wear?

Unable to help with the pins and needles which i too get in my hands but with me it starts in my fingers and works up to my shoulder and this is due to a combination of carpel tunnel syndrome which has been suspected for years but confirmed last week and a neck injury which I have been refered to for a scan.

Prpbably best to discuss with your GP and get reffered to a neurologist.

Regarding Moorfields and lenses, Ken Pullum who works for Moorfleds fits sclerals and as far as i am aware runs his own scleral lens company that supplies Moorfields. Moorfileds also supply and fit the soft Kerasoft IC lenses which I wear and I know they have fitted some advanced cases of KC to. I have dry patches on my cornea which is possibly why I became intolerant of the RGP lenses despite a very good fitting. The Kerasoft IC is a high water content silicone hydrogel lens and although I still have a few dry patches on my cornea, they have never got worse but I have no iriitation due to contact lenses and wear them all my waking hours, seven days per week.

Hi There

I don't think this is from your contact lens. As Gareth indicates, pins and needles are often from nerve compression and their location rarely relate to where the actual problem really is, which is quite often in the neck or upper spine. The feeling of tingling is felt at the END of any particular nerve. So yes, this is a GP visit!

Moorfields do offer all types of lenses, so I should try asking again! With you being reliant on one lens only, its not a good idea to go to soft at the moment, as you would have to go through significant de-moulding time, so do try asking about SoClear as well as scerals.

Thanks for the pointers Lynn and Gareth, i best get to my GP, had this pins and needles issue for 6 months +

Regarding the lens fitting i'm still at Collisons Opticians at Sutton Eye Unit (didn't want to badmouth them in name as i got modded for doing that before).

Moorfields are dealing with just the cornea itself at the moment but i think at my next appointment i will ask to be seen for lens fittings at Moorfields, seems to be a much more professionally run establishment.

Infact i would advise people unhappy with the service they are receiving from the NHS to see Dr Rostrom at St George, Moorfields as soon as they can, they seemed to have a much more 'can do' attitude than the NHS hospitals i was at previously.
