downs syndrome and keratoconus

My son is 19 and has Downs Syndrome and was diagnosed with Keratoconus last June. This has left him with very reduced vision in is left eye due to fibrous tissue. At the time his right eye was fine, but we were devastated to be told last week that the right eye has gone te same way and will require cross limking to save the sight. Because the cornea is so thin they cannot do the 2 procedures together and the UV light will have to be done at a later date when the cornea is a bit more strenghtened. Jamie is not very co operative so this will have to be done under g a. I wonder if anyone has had similar experiences? I am so worried for him. Any comments would be most welcome. Thank you
