double vision

hi all,
I wear piggy-backs (a RGP over a soft lens) in my left eye- the one that hasn't had the graft. 2 days ago i started having trouble with the vision and am experiencing double vision from that eye alone! it came on pretty suddenly. also the lens has been popping out by itself- which it hasn't done for ages.
i have tried the regular clean and reinsert a few times, but it doesn't seem to help. i am presuming it is the lens, so will go see my optom as soon as i can get an appointment.
any ideas?

I'd go to see my ophthalmologist.

well. i have made an appointment for wednesday (tomorrow) with my optometrist because it is definitely not an infection, and i am hoping it is the contact lens that needs adjustment... i am cautious to go to the ophthalmologist - basically because i am on private medical plan

sorry Melissa, it is too easy for us to assume that everybody has the benefits of the NHS.
I do think that the ophthalmologist would probably have been a better option, but your case that would clearly have been much more expensive. Every good wish.

I think you are on the right track with the fit of your lens being an issue. Sometimes a lens can suddenly distort which not only can cause falling out problems but may also reshape your cornea so you get double vision.
Your optom will be able to decide whether this is an optom/CL fit issue or an eye health issue

thanks for all your thoughts. i saw my KC optometrist today and am so glad i did!
basically my cornea has gotten a tiny bit steeper and the Acuvue Oasys soft lens (which i was using under the RGP) is made of a very 'elastic' material and was holding its shape instead of following the new curvature- causing the edge to 'ripple' this was disturbing my vision and causing the RGP to pop out....
simple solution: he gave me another type of soft lens, which feels great. he also polished the RGP to clean up tiny scratches...
My corrected vision is identical to what it was before and i am V happy!
i am also ordering a pair of sports/wraparound glasses with transition lens to wear over my contacts and graft when i sail- so that i can get the best vision possible without getting seawater in my eyes...
hopefully i won't sail into any rocks!!!
