Keeping those lenses clean...

I haven't been on here for some time, but thought I'd drop by to share my recent experiences with my KC.

Now having read my story, some of you will doubtless say I am very daft, and I wouldn't disagree.

I was having lots of trouble with my hybrid (soft edge hard centre) RGP lenses, in terms of tolerence and getting huge regular, really nasty headaches.

Then like a bolt of lightening from the sky it occured to me what I'd been doing wrong. Being a bit of a skinflint, I was using my lens solution (Boston Simplus i think) for 2-3 nights at a go. it suddenly occured to me that this was a really, really, really bad idea.

I started changing the solution every single night and making sure I cleaned the lenses really carefully...just taking that extra couple of minutes to make sure I'd done it well.

I've even started making sure that at the first sign of tension in my eye, I pop the lenses out, give them a clean with the Boston, and off to go!!

This new routine kicked in just before Christmas, and do you know what?? I'm back to wearing lenses for 12-16 hours a day, and I've hardly had a headache at all. It is most liberating.

I can't believe what a fool I was for several years, putting up with so many headaches and plenty of pain in the eye.

So to the reason for my confessing all on here, is it strikes me I cannot be the only one to have done this...if you are struggling like I was, in my experience it's all down to being ruthless with the cleaning and using fresh solution every evening. Never mind any small extra expense, it's made a hell of a difference to me.

Cheers all!! :D

Yes, it's like it says on the leaflet they put into the box: each time you take off a lens it should be stored in fresh fluid. :D :D

Thanks for sharing this story; we are often in the best place to improve our experience.

hi paul, i admit that i have done this in the past too, and when i do i experience burning all day....
i recently had a corneal ulcer, and my doctor advised me to trow out all my old cases. i normally wash them with 'mirraflow' contact lens soap in very hot water.... but he says some bacteria are really tough and you should chuck out often!!! i threw away about 20!!! i don't even know how long i had had some of them....

I've always used far more solution than I should and it does cost a fortune - "3 month packs" invariably last me for 6 or 7 weeks!

I'm a big believer in the use of a bit extra solution is far better than a "bad eye day" and in the context of cost, a few hours lost work due to eye trouble is far more expensive then any amount of extra solution in the day?

Don't disagree with anything above...it's all about being fastidious and thorough and well...the proof of the pudding is in the eating...no eye pain or headaches for months!

Another helpful post from this fab forum! Spring cleaning for Charlotte's bits and bobs too I think. Even tho she's a newbie, a good sort out won't hurt. Good habits and all that! :D
