Does anyone know if CXL is available on the NHS, particularly in the North West area?

Many thanks

Ashy

Hi Ashy

As far as I am aware no one does CXL on the NHS as such.

The area where it is being done is as part of a hospital clinical trial, so you might be able to get on one of those if there is one happening in your area.

Your GP mighht be able to ask on your behalf or your local hospital might be able to refer you to one where this is being done.

I have done some searching and was not able to find any clinical trials in the north west. I went privately with a clinic down south east, and so far the consultant has been very happy with the progress.

Ashy, do look at the thread I posted yesterday on 'NICE guidance on crosslinking'. This hopefully means that more surgeons will be applying to their Primary Care Trusts to do CXL on the NHS for individual patients. And one paragraph of the guidance encourages more research into CXL, so this should mean there will be more clinical trials as well.
