I am quite happy today .....

I have just been to my local NHS hospital for a regular appointment, and the vision in my left eye has changed from 1/36 to 3/60 uncorrected - the figures dont make much sense to me but i know I didnt have to be as close to the board to be able to read the top letter  . If someone can explain how the numbers for the chart work I would appreciate it mind you.

As most of you are probably aware i had CXL done privately two weeks ago, and this was the first chance Ive had to notice if there had been any difference with my vision. I dont have a prescription in my glasses left lens (and am out of CL at the moment due to my dry eye) so not been able to tell with every day work.

Sounds encouraging!
Here's an explanation of the numbers.
The first on ei show far from the board you are
The second is how far away a person with "perfect" 20/20 visions could read the same letter.
The numbers are measured in metres.
The usual distance from the board (where the board an dcahir are set up in the optician's room) is 6 metres.
So 6/60 means you can see at 6 metres Z(sitting in optician's chair looking at the board) what a person with 20?20 vision can see at 60 metres.
20/20 vision is equivalent t /6 - for the days the distances were measured in feet.
3/60 means you can read at 3 metres what a 0/20 vision person can see at 60.
etc.
THe standard eye tet chart has sizes for 60/36/24/18/12/9/6 and 5 (one line for each).
IIRR.
Hope this makes sense and is useful
Rosemary

Hi Lizb,

Do you still have hazy/foggy vision in your treated eyes or you have now got the pre-CXL vision?

Let me know pls.

I dont have the hazy/foggy vision in my left (CXL) eye now. this cleared after the first week or so, or was not as noticable after the first few days - my right eye is the strongest eye so i wouldnt notice necessarily

I cant tell what my vision standard is currently at as i am in glasses with prescription in the right eye only. My check at my local hospital showed some slight improvement compared to my pre-CXL vision, just two weeks after the procedure. I am back at my consultants next week for a follow up appointment.

My main problem has been being more light sensitive, cant cope with the contrasting when bright sunshine and raining at the same time. Driving in the rain yesterday with sunglasses on was my latest, as there was also sunshine on one side of the car and rain on the other. Typical british weather I know. My eye doesnt react as quickly from bright to dark and back again. for me though these are all liveable with if my KC has stopped progressing and i am able to have Intacs next year.

Thanks for your reply.

KC causes light sensitivity. Even I can't tolerate sun light much and thats why Glasses are on whenever I am out in sunlight.

Are you not going to try RGP lenses first for your eye. Or you may also like to
try synergeyes lenses --> http://www.synergeyes.com/

probably synergeyes lenses are available at your place. this seems perfect to me as they are hard from bottom to give good vision and soft from other area for eye comfort.

I heard Intacs may cause infection in some 5-10% cases.

Deepak

I have tried Synegise, RGP, piggy backing, kerasoft (not sure which one) and Soclear lenses. Never managed to get more than 3 hours wear out of them. Initially i managed 8 hours wear last year from the Synergise lenses but this decreased towards the end of the year and i had permanantly red eyes, which suggested i cant get enough oxygen to the cornea when wearing lenses. I eventually ended up with wearing CL for an hour, followed by two days of eyes feeling bruised and very red. Not a great look for a professional - constantly looking like i had no sleep/hangover going into meetings was not a good career move. luckily my boss is very understanding - however i have to go to external meetings i was very concious of not looking professional.

I thought long and hard about having any procedure done on my eyes, prior to booking my consultation and continued to try different contact lenses during this time. I suffer very badly with dry eye and whilst i got some relief with Clinitas Soothe products without CL in, i was going through the stuff like there was no tomorow and still having problems with CL.

Deepak,

I was lght sensative wearing RGP's but never if I satyed in the world of the visually imapired seeing nothng useful. Since using soft lenses for KC I ma no longer light sensitive and have to make a conceous decision to wear sun glasses to protect my eyes from UV light rather than the world being too bright.
