Lamellar Keratectomy

Postby DavidM » Mon 28 Sep 2009 11:12 am

Hi All

Wondered if anyone's had lamellar keratectomy (or PTK photo therapeutic keratectomy as the consultant also referred to it)carried out? My Health Board in Scotland don't offer this procedure yet although I believe they're putting a business case together for offering in the future.

The consultant I've seen privately for this in Manchester advises that this is an option for me and will smooth the corneal surface and give better RGP fit/comfort. I've got scarring caused by 30 yrs of RGP wear with continuous abrading. Am aware this might not be a permanent fix and depends on the re-fitted RGP.

Currently seeing where I can get to with Kerasoft lenses. If anyone's had this treatment I'd be interested to hearwhether or not it was effective?

Regards
David

Did you co sider, as an alternative, trying non RGP corneal lenses?

There are soft lenses for people with KC, or scleral lenses.

All the best.

All the best David.

Please do stay in touch, and let us know what comes from your research; it may be that you will provide just the answer for which one of our many daily visitors who never post has been looking.
