im just looking for some advice to be honest and also hear about some experiences of KC with soft contact lenses from you guys.

I was diagnosed with KC and astigmatism a few months back. I have been wearing hard contact lenses ever since then, but they are very uncomfortable as im a very active person, i play sports and recently i have joined the police force so the hard lenses are not good anymore as i do not feel comfi enough running with them.

I had an eye test today and it turns out that I can have soft lenses, although I wont get as much correction as i would with hard lenses.

it is good to know that in your area it is still possible to join the police even with keratoconus. Many police authorities would not admit folk with this condition.

There are soft lenses that are suitable for people with keratoconus, but whether they would be suitable for you is something that only a fitter could determine. Where do you get your lenses?

If your KC is mild there should be no reason why your vision will be poorer than with RGP's.

The only way you will find out is by trying them and this goes for any contact lens for KC.

Without a lens in my riht eye I can't really make out the light box, but with my Kerasoft 3 lens I get 6/5, my left eye has a Kerasoft IC lens and I get 6/5. Exactly the same quality of vision as with RGP's but the ability to wear lenses all my waking hours 7 days per week which is a 95% increase in wear time for me. Air conditioning, dust, wind etc are no longer a problem which I experienced with RGP lenses. I've been wearing soft lenses for 10 months now absolutly problem free, tempting fete but this is the longest I've ever gone without a lens problem.

Unfortunatly I have heard from people who's lens fitter told them they would get poorer corrected vison with the specialist soft lenses for KC. These people subsequently went private and with the same type of soft lens get vision that is on a par with that they got with RGP's.

It would appear to me that as RGP lenses were our only option for so many years that unfortuantly many lens fitters have lost some of their skill when it comes to fitting the soft lens.
