Hi All, hope your all well, just have a question to see if anyone else has suffered of recent, basically I wear my contacts all day and when it comes to taking them out I find my eyes are extremely itchy, i do use drops for dry eyes but this dont seem to be helping, I find this itchyness almost driving me insane, the urge to scratch is overwhelming yet told not to, SO WHAT DO I DO? I was told by my GP to use hayfever drops at night, only problem being when I have they make my eyes feel as if they are on fire!!! Any ideas anyone? And by the way the itchyness is mostly at night.

As hard as it is going to sound resist the urge to rub them. I have found myself using cotton wool pads with cold water on them and my eyes shut helps a little.
I got rx by my nice GP some strong hayfever tablets to take in the morning and at ngiht, hayfever drops on top of the other 2 drops I am using and still my eyes bug the heck out of me.
But rubbing your eyes makes them worse, trust me, ending up looking like you have been crying and trying to explain to others isnt easy, I was in a meeting 2 weeks ago and eyes doing my head in so ended up using my drops then putting on a eye mask and having my head against the table for the duration of the meeting, thankfully the people the meeting was with are used to me by now and just accept me as I am.
Feel able to PM me if you want to chat.

Have you had your eyes checked to make sure the lenses aren't causing any abrasions on the cornea?
I've found if the cornea is slightly scratched (you can't see it) any drops filling that scratch sting badly. I get the same if I get a dry patch on the eye lids. When I was wearing RGP's I did find my eyes felt a bit dry but nothing makng me want to scratch them until I took my lenses out.
You might also need to use eye drops a bit more frequently but if you are having constant problems it may well be worth taking the precaution and making sure there are no other underlying problems.

Something i have found to relieve itchiness is a cool facecloth laying across my eyes. stops the urge to itch and freshens my eyes up no end. cheap and cheerful and easy to carry with you in a small food bag ready wet. i just have to remember which facecloth is for my eyes and which one for cleaning the visor on my helmet when out on the bike.
