Scleral Lens

Hi

I was diagnosed with KC nearly 20 years ago. 10 years ago I had a very successful graft on my left eye. My right eye has slowly got worse and after many years of using RGP lenses they are not an option for me anymore. Today the hospital fitted me with a Scleral lens. Obviously I have to wait for it to be made.....

So I'd love to hear from anyone out there who has a Scleral lens and can tell me all about it!! Are they comfortable, easy to put in/get out, does your eye look "funny" with it in.... anything you can tell me!

Thanks
Joanne

Welcome to the forum.

As to sclerals; the most comfortable lens I have ever worn was a scleral :D

They are 'different' to put in, but easier to handle.

They are different to take out but more difficult to lose.

They are not affected in the same way as RGP lenses by bits of dust getting into the eye: in fact I never had any problem of that sort when wearing my scleral.

Once you master the insertion and removal they are in every respect absolutely fabulous. If you can wear a scleral you will do very well indeed.

As to eyes looking funny, I never noticed such a thing, and I have been in the company of others wearing sclerals whose eyes looked normal to me.

All the best

Andrew

Hi Andrew

Thank you so much - you've really reassured me about the prospect of having a Scleral lens. :D
