Not happy with treatment

Postby BurnTheAction » Mon 01 Jun 2009 9:40 am

So i've been seen at Sutton Hospital for a few years now, my k is advancing however (piggyback rgps) and im not happy with the treatment, my vision is not good and they don't seem to care.

Where is best in london to get great treatment, specifically good contact lens support?

Thanks

St Thomas's Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital both see a lot of KCers. Moorfields also run the eye clinic at St George's, Tooting. But bear in mind that whichever hospital eye clinic you go to, NHS treatment often involves longer waits than we would like. I'm sure we've all had the experience of wishing our lens problems could be sorted out quickly and finding the next available appt isn't for another few months. You could, of course, go to a private optometrist where things would happen more quickly, but the cost of lenses would be quite a bit higher.
Good luck

Hi there!

It is always good to find a good hospital to get KC help, though this can involve longer waits and further travel. I waited over a year to get into Moorfields but find that the waiting in the clinics are very long as so many people go there! I also piggy back with a RGP but without the soft lens I am in too much pain to wear it.

I did go privately for a DALK graft, but only funded this because I had a large tax rebate! Without this and being off on long term sick with the other eye I would have stayed on the NHS. Privately it is very expensive, but as with all private things you can pick your surgeon and the date you would like to have it done.

Best of luck with finding good KC care, love Claire X x X

thanks for the replies, i too can only wear rgps with soft lens underneath now, far too painful otherwise.with a full time job the waits between appointments is ridiculous but i dont earn enough for private care.
i'm going to try and get a referall to moorfields, if it takes a year i might as well start now! im one of few at sutton with KC so hopefully moorfields greater experience helps.
