My 34 year old son has been diagnosed with advanced Keratoconus. I was wondering if anyone has tried the newer contact lenses ( SynergEyes) and if they work well. Anyone with any experience with those lenses, please advise. Thank you :)

Welcome to the forum! I am sorry to hear that your son has been diagnosed with advanced keratoconus; is this the first intimation that he has keratoconus? It would be very unusual for someone to arrive suddenly with the advanced stage of the condition without any previous eye trouble.

I have not had personal experience with the particular lens type that you mention, but I have had experience with a wide range of other lens types, styles and materials; my all time favourite lens was the scleral I wore for a short time when my eyes had become intolerant of other lenses.

I do know that some other members of the forum have used various soft lenses with great success, but I also know that it is hard to fit eyes with advanced keratoconus and the possibility always remains that the time is coming when your son may have to think about more invasive solutions.

Yours aye

Andrew

until recently i have only ever used hard NGP (non gas permeable lenses) which are ok until the KC becomes too advanced and the lenses start to cause problems such as ulcers as the lens rubs the cornea. 6 months ago i was advised to try a synergeyes hybrid lens which is hard in the middle to cover the cornea but a soft outer skirt is supposed to make the lens more comfortable. Not enjoyed the hybrid lens & am currently having issues with my optometrist regarding the lens which has split!!

All the best anyway & hope your son finds something suitable

I have had experience (about 4-6 months) of the synergise lenses, my experience of the lenses was good, my eyes just decided to change shape and the dry eye has gotten worse wearing lenses that i am just waiting on a new contact lens fitting appointment (CL fitter gone on holiday for a few weeks  ) to try some different lenses that she has.

I must admit to liking the lenses, though i have struggled with a wide variety of lenses in the past so a pair that were comfortable was a god send.
