Hello,

I need from all of you to guide me, to give me hope,i am 43 years old male, living in kuwait, and I have suffered Conjunctivitis last few years, and now my right eye is severely scarred that affected my vision, I have heard of CXL drop treatment, can you please guide which hospitals in UK have experience in such treatment, and does it also work for scarred eyes.

Hi there,

It all depends, is the short answer, you will need to get the advice of someone who has trained to do this treatment. Its only if your KC is progressing you need to think about treatment for that. The treatment is not being used to improve vision, only to try to prevent any loss that may occur. Its a bit like insurance, you don't get car insurance knowing your car will get stolen, but if it does get stolen, its there to help you. It will not reverse scarring, if scarring is effecting your vision then it will still be the case after treatment with Crosslinking, however you need to see someone whos job it is to know what the best way forward is for you. There are many good Dr's in your home country which will advice you before you travel afar and also there very well may be a trained Dr in crosslinking not too far away, ask around if at all possbile over there would be the best thing before looking to travel far away.

Best regards, Pepe

I notice you state you don't have KC adn as Pepepe says CXL is for Keratoconus and does nothing to remove corneal scaring.

Your opthalmologist should be able to advise on other treatments that might be available even if they are not currently done in Kuwait. Then you will be able to search for that treatment elsewhere.

Sorry we might be unable to help.

Hi Coyote

I will just add to the above that CXL is not currently freely available in NHS hospitals in the UK - only in private clinics. As the others point out, it is a treatment for keratoconus NOT corneal scarring and will not make any difference to your scarring. However, if you DO have keratoconus, it will help slow down or stop progression of your condition.

Let us know more about yourself!

Hello coyote and welcome to the forum.

I know how difficult conjunctivitis can be, and although you do not have keratoconus, I am sure that everybody here offers you the very best wishes as you continue your recovery.

I am afraid that we are probably not the best people to ask whether CXL is a recommended treatment for conjunctivitis.

All the best

Andrew
