My son has just been diagnosed as having Keratoconus by one of these 'High St' opticians. No mention was made about being referred to an eye specialist. Should he be referred at least initially? Who oversees this condition?

When i was diagnosed about 10 years ago by my optician, they wrote a letter to my GP stating the condition and the need for a refferal to an Eye Specialist. The optician that diagnosed my condition had previously worked at Birmingham Eye Hospital so was fully aware of the condition and the need to be transferred to an eye specialist.
Go to your GP and explain what the optician has said and could your son be referred to an eye specialist please. Maybe ask the optician who diagnosed the condition to write a letter of support to take to your GP.
Alternatively there is a list of Opticians somewhere on the website that have more knowledge of KC, and it may be worth seeing if any are local to you to try and get more inforamtion about the condition from.

Thanks Lizb for your quick reply. Yes I'll do what you suggest and take it from there.
