It is always good advice to consult an ophthalmologist about any eye condition. When i was diagnosed, it was clear that my optician had recognized my condition but he did not name it. He sent me with a letter to my GP and the GP gave me an immediate referral to an ophthalmologist. It was the eye doctor who named my condition, so that from that day to this I have been within a telephone call of an immediate consultation with a specialist.

Sorry dweezil: I didn't mean to detract from your post, but rather to underline the importance of what you say. The article is very interesting, and underlines the importance of consulting an ophthalmologist.

These days, people seem to be told that they have keratoconus by optometrists, and never go near an eye doctor. As a result they can end up paying commercial rates for contact lenses, which may not be fitted by people expert in fitting KC eyes.
