Good question, where do you live? In Scotland, at least, it is possible to have your GP write a prescription for lens solutions. For some this would work out costing more than buying the same solutions "over the counter" in a local supermarket, but if you are exempt to prescription charges you would benefit from a GP's prescription.

I do not know about other jurisdictions in the UK, far less about other parts of the world.

By the way, welcome to the forum. :D I should have said that first (sorry  )

Hi Callum,
In England, the theory is that if you get your contact lenses from a hospital eye clinic, they should also give you solutions on prescription (so anyone who is eligible for free prescriptions would get their solutions free). Unfortunately, in practice, very few hospital eye clinics do give prescriptions for solutions, or only give them for a month or 3 months. We're trying to get the system changed so that GPs would be able to prescribe solutions in England too, but I don't know how long it will take to succeed in that!
