Grafts & Driving

The only question I forgot to ask at the hospital....

I am 2 weeks post graft. My left eye (the grafed one) is healing well and is about 6/60. My right eye is 6/36 but corrects to 6/12 with a lens. Can I drive on the strength of the good eye? I think in daylight, I can pass the 20m reg plate test but is ther a restriction on driving with one good eye. The DVLA are very vague...

Any ideas? Don't worry I won'y quote anyone....

The reason that the DVLA would be vague is that there is no intrinsic reason why you should not be able to drive after a graft; each case needs to be judged on its particular merits. You are right that the minimum sight requirement for driving remains the same whether or not you have had a graft, and whether you are looking through one eye or two.

This, I am afraid, is something you need to check with your optometrist. Do you have a contact lens appointment coming up soon?

All the best
