Optometrists

Hello,

The list of friendly optometrists - is this a list of professionals who have been recommended for the list or someone who has shown interest or experience of fitting different types of keratoconus patients?
What are the normal RGP's fitted on the NHS - Do they fit Rose K lenses ? I ask this because I have RGP'S but haven't been told what type they are. I have asked about different options i.e. Soft perm lenses but the optometist said they didn't have enough variance in the sizes and they wouldn't be an option.
I am really struggling with the lenses I have and my parents are thinking about trying another practicioner or asking for a referal to another hospital.
Any ideas?

Gabriela :)

I think that the list of optometrists in the members section is made up of practitioners that have been recommended by members.

One problem here is that we all read other people's experiences and wonder why this lens or that has not been offered to us; it may just be that the lenses we see have worked for others would not be good for us. However, you have a perfect right to be in control of the management of your condition; if that means you seek a second opinion on the way your condition is being handled, then that is your right.

In the end, if you hear from other practitioners exactly what the present one is saying, then your mind has been set at ease. If you get other news then things move forward! A win-win scenario.

All the best

Andrew

edited to correct a typo that would have made grown men blush!

Just to clarify on the optoms list. We do have a list of optoms recommended by members on the 'members only' part of the site. The list on the home page of KC-friendly optometrists is, as it says at the top, a list of optoms who have contacted the Group to say they are willing to fit KC patients. The KC Group hasn't been able to make any checks on their specialisation in this field, so inclusion in the list doesn't mean that they are endorsed by the Group, and we suggest that people make their own enquiries. Having said that, I'm sure many of them are very experienced in fitting KC eyes.
And, as Andrew says, if you're not happy with your current lenses, you do have a right to a second opinion.
Good luck
Anne
