still struggling after RGP's...

I've been getting fitted for my first pair of RGP's over the past few months or so, and I have a great fitter who has done really well and gotten them about the best he can. He says that I am lucky because my vision is close to 20/20 ( I live in the US) in both eyes (its a little worse in my left eye because the KC is worse there).
The problem is, even with how great everything seems on paper, I am struggling. My left eye just doesn't seem to catch up to my right eye, if this makes any sense. I have a really hard time maintaining concentration and it really affects my confidence in lots of situations to be honest
I think its due to the the fact that the KC is quite bad in my left eye. I get lots of ghosting and blurring in that eye. And when I try to use my eyes together, I have double vision, and a hard time focusing. Its harder to focus on things close up. This has always been my main compaint about KC, and I was really hoping the RGP's would help. Also, my light sensitivity is really quite bad with RGP's...strong lights are a nightmare.
Anyways, I just wanted to get some feedback, and see what you guys would recommend. I am beginning to think that some sort of surgery will be my only hope for helping this. Unfortunately, I can't afford that right now. So for now I'll just stick with the RGP's and hope maybe they'll get better with time since they're fairly new.
