Sutures

Hiya

I just had my sutures from my graft removed in surgery, and since my sght seems to be very blury was just wondering if anyone else has/or had this and how long it took for your vision to get better after this as im back to uni nx week lol

It is quite a common experience for sight to alter when sutures are taken out. When the tension is released the astigmatism on your cornea changes.

The astigmatism will settle and you will be able to start wearing either contact lenses or glasses. Do keep your advisor of studies up to date with what's happening.

We are all different for some when all the sutures are removed things settle comfort and vison wise after acouple days.

My vision steadily improved over a couple years until there was no longer need for vision correction. That lasted for about 5 yeasr then I went back to glasses but that may wel have been age as my grafts are now 20 yeasr old.

How blurry is the blurriness? Gareth and Andrew are quite right - the vision does usually change after sutures are removed and it usually settles down after a few days. But the golden rule is that if things don't improve and/or you're worried don't hesitate to ring the hospital to get things checked out. There is a VERY rare complication after suture removal which I managed to get when I had my stitches removed after my first graft. My vision became very much worse than it had been before the stitch removal and when I went back for the routine post op check 10 days later, it turned out the graft was lifting off. Like I say, this is extremely rare so I don't want to scare anybody! Some change in vision after sutures come out is perfectly normal, but I've learned the hard way that listening to yourself when the body is saying something is wrong is the sensible thing to do. So if things don't settle down, don't hesitate to ask the professionals to have a look. Reassurance that all is well is always worth having! All the best for a great year at uni.
