UK Keratoconus Self-Help and Support Association

Hello everyone, I'm a new member to the forum. I hope I’m doing this the right way. I’ve had keratoconus for a number of years. I have a graft in my right eye but now wear keratoconus contact lenses in both eyes. I have lost a contact lens in the past and have had to buy an expensive replacement. I have tried to find out if I could get these contact lenses insured but have been unable to find any insurance company that offers this service. Does anyone know if this possible? Any advice or suggestions much appreciated – Phil G

Hi Phil and welcome.

I suggest you contact your home contents insurer as quite a few will offer cover but it won't come cheap!

I think opticians offer cover although this may only be if you bought the lenses from them.

You could approach an insurance broker or failing that I am sure a search on Google will reveal a special insurance scheme.

My lenses are coverd by home insurance at no extra cost.

The hospital and high street optician advised the specialist insureres for lenses hike the price for KC patients.

My lenses have been covered by both Abbey and recently changed to Barclays home insurance.

My lenses are through the hospital and unless I get through loads of replacemenst they only cost £50.50 per lens and other replacements are free as long as I am not loosing them on a regular basis.

So far (he says grasping a firm lump of wood) not lost any lenses.
