Paying for solutions

My optom told me that if I lived an hours drive away in Dumfries for example I would not have to pay for any solutions! He said I should write to my PCT.
I was wondering if this is something we could take on as a group and maybe start a petition or something?
What do you think?

Donna,
This is something we are activly following and as a result a members local mp is now on a cross party commitee fighting the KC corner.
Rossie Winterton on several occasions has stood up in parliment and stated where there is a medical need for contact lenses then those people are entitled to contact lens solutions on the NHS. There is a GP code for KC which would allow them to prescribe things for us.
Marian Bargery on the committee is the person championing this cause for us.

Dont know about anywhere else but my optom has a clinic in Dunfries and says that they get free solutions there, he says its not fair and we should get everything we need free.
think I will do a poll to see who lives where and if they get free solutions

I haven't heard of anyone getting free solutions, not even Wales and they get free prescriptions!

Hi all
It does seem really silly doesn't it when the only way we can see is with lenses and when we speak to the people in the chemists they advise 'contact lenses are looked upon as for vanity and therefore solutions are not available on the prescriptions list'
Well my 'barbie soup bowls' are certainly not for vanity, clear vision with anything glasses, soft lenses comfy RGPs would be a god send.
However, as we all do I manage and until they change these silly systems we seem to have in place such as KC being relatively unheard of we will all struggle along and just do the best we can.
To me with a prescription certificate that I pay full price for it would seem much more sensible to be able to get the solutions that way rather than having to spend around £100 every 2 months or so just for the benefit of seeing for 7 or so hours a day - not what I class as vanity
