Monet

Postby Christine Wallis » Sat 19 May 2007 7:35 am

Did anyone see the reports in the papers this week saying that Monet had Cataracts hence his 'blurry' paintings.

A few years ago I went to the big Monet exhibition in London, and said at the time it was like what I 'see' without my lenses.

Perhaps old Claude was a closet KC'er ?

Monet's cataracts were well known, and may not have accounted for the blurry pictures, but they certainly accounted for the shift in the colours of his pallet. They tendted to blue until after his surgery when the pinks re-emerged.

The version I read a while ago was that Monet was short-sighted but too vain to hear his specs, hence everything at distance looked in a haze!
