My lenses! Updated!

I went for my first lens fitting today, wow! I could see :D
He was very nice and explained all about KC, told me about this website and answered all my questions. He is also my boss's neighbour!
He did lots of tests and said I have moderate KC, one of the tests involved turning my eye lids inside out so he could examine them! Not pleasant.
then he put lenses in, he put anasthetic drops in first so it wouldnt hurt me, then inserted the lens. He put drops in that would show if it was a good fit etc then asked me to sit in the waiting room for a while to see how I felt and to let the drops wear off, he said that if I felt any pain I was to bang on his door and he would remove them straightaway.
I sat and read a magazine without holding it to my nose! Everything looked very clear and bright. Even the freckles on my hand! I sat there for ages, the lens felt strange, I could feel it moving when I blinked I could feel it under my eye lid, but it was not painful. All double vision and halos vanished! I was gutted when he took them out.
Then he did an eye test to determine the strength I needed, and said I would get them in a weeks time.
Then he will show me how to insert and remove them, and how to clean them.
he did stress that even if I get good results I have to slowly build up wear time and he checked my eyes to make sure the lens hadnt rubbed my eye while I was reading. He said they are a good fit and that my response to them was good.
Before I went in I had another panic
attack   I ended up in Boots buying some water and some rescue remedy to try and calm down. But I think that now I have had the hospital visit and the first lens fitting I am not as worried, my vision was so good I cant wait! Before he inserted the lens I could only just see the top letter of the Snellen chart! Afterwards I could see 5 rows down.

Donna,

A great start. Yes build up the wear starting at an hour or two; the optom will advise you and how to build up.

It is quite common to have a lens look like a good fit to find that the weight of the lens changes things ever so slightly so we need a refit quite quick. You have a good start so any changes are really fine tuning to give the best vision and comfort. Sometimes it is a compromise.

The lens movement we feel initially is mainly down to not being used to having plastic in our eyes. As you get used to them the lens movement gets less and your brain starts to ignore the movement that is left.

Keep us posted on how you progress.

Way to go donna!

It always surprises folk how much difference lenses make! Do take time to let you wear time build up.

I could not be more delighted to know that things went well for you.

:D :D :D :D :D :D

I feel so much happier now!
My boss called to see how I got on and said that they are behind me all the way and to build up wear time properly, then we will look at my working hours.
Fingers crossed I manage to get the lens in and out by myself! they did say I would be shown how to do it but its different on your own!

Really pleased things are looking up for you now - and that at least someone has an understanding employer...

It's pretty easy to get the lenses in -and getting them out gets easier the more you do it (especially with a little plunger    )

Excellent news Donna; that sounds like a text book lens fitting to me.
The lifting of the eye lids is probably the worst thing that will happen to you. A little unpleasant but you will get used to it as this will happen when you attend periodic check ups.

Hi Donna, Great to hear you're over the worst bit and it wasn't too bad for you.

One of the first things I noticed, as well, when I got lenses was that I had so many freckles !

Keep up the Good Work
