Pain in eye

Woke up with pain in my left eye today which isn't my lens eye. It was so uncomfortable I looked in mirror half expecting to see something but there was nothing to look at. It's now eased up in the last couple of hours. Freaked me out a bit.
I've had the graft for years in that eye, just don't expect pain in that one.

Louise,
remember what John has put in the past regarding rejection;
R - Redness
S - sensitivity be it light or a lens
V - Vison change
P - Pain
Any one or combination can mean problems, whenever I have had any of the above I have got it checked at eye casualty. Fortunatly this has only happend three times in nearly 20 years, the last two between 2005 and 2006. Never been down to rejection, a cause could only be assigned to one and that was an allergic reaction to my lenses.
If it happens again, get it checked.

Thanks for reminding me Gareth, only had pain today so it can't be rejection now both grafts 15 & 22 years old. As I understand it rejection is only an issue for the first 5 years. If it happened again with the other symptoms I would get it checked. It just surprised me in that eye.

To be fair Louise, I have been told rejection can happen at anytime. Less likely the older the graft. However trauma, infection can be what it takes to kick start a rejection. That is the main reason I have been advised against surgery to aid my right eye.

By no means suggesting your consultants are wrong and mine are correct. You know what they are like, some are more carefull than others.
I just feel it is not worth risking a graft that has served us so well for many years (he says after all the dangerous stuff he has done since having grafts

).

i dont have any medical knowledge, but maybe it could be stress/strain related?

If you get it in the morning again I'd get it checked out. Other than that can't really help - but hope you are OK!

Yeah I would, thanks xx
This is whats so great about this forum, being able to express concerns and knowing there are always people around who care, are encouraging and are knowledgeable.
Big thanks to Anne for starting the KC group, to John and the committee for all your work, and lovely members here, you're great.

Id have to agree with Gareth, rejection can happen ANYTIME in the history of the graft. But after the 5 year mark, it generally does happen due to either a) a change in the eye either by a knock, infection etc b) as you get older changes in the immune system which can trigger a rejection
