Eye rubbing

Postby Keith wilson » Tue 08 May 2007 4:37 am

Hi. I know that kerataconus is a major cause of my excessive eye rubbing (along with my lack of sleep), but the other day i read a document that says that excessive eye rubbing can cause the progression of the condition to rapidly increase. What are others opinions on this?

By the way, i am recently diagnosed with KC (in the past 18 months) in both eyes, no operations, left eye almost cant see, right eye 20/20 (THANK GOD). No contacts (I cant handle them, too uncomfortable) but i dont know about RGP. I tried the basic contacts pre diagnosis of KC and couldnt handle them (i cant remember why i had to try them). I don't drive at night anymore (if only i was the only on one on the road id be fine but even then, pedestrians-look out!). Oh well, life goes on (including the headaches from behind the eyes).

I have always leaned towards the view that eye rubbing was a symptom rather than a cause of Keratoconus. this does not mean that the symptom does not also exacerbate the condition.

I do not rub my eyes any more, but I would dearly love to do so. when I feel the urge I wet a face cloth and hold it against my eye. Sometimes, I go to the fridge and taike out my little bottle of hypermelose and just drench my itchy eye.

Better than chocolate! :D

Eddie, I hope you intend to eat the chocolate, rather than rub it in your eye! :twisted:

No darling, when you go to the fridge, hypromellose in eye, choc in gob.

Here's a little reminder;

Eye drops = eye
Choccie = in gob

Idea for the KC group committee: put together a fridge magnet with Louise's wise little sayings.

Neat pun, Matthew:

Note to committee, in addition to a range of fridge magnets with the wise afforisms of Director Lou, how about a companion set of magnets with forum puns?

How about instead of fridge magnets some KCGroup branded chocolate for "bad eye days"

Mmm Chocolate
